Frank Hayes March 5, 1924 to April 21, 2008
Marcia Hayes, January 14, 1927 to April 28, 2008
Frank Hayes died at Leisureworld, Gravenhurst on April 21, 2008. A short time later his wife Marcia Hayes died on April 29, 2008, also at Leisureworld.
In 1953, Frank and Marcia moved their family to Baysville, then later to Gravenhurst where they lived and raised 12 children. He and Marcia moved to Kitchener where Frank worked until his retirement from Schneider Meat Company. Upon their retirement they travelled with their fifth wheel trailer throughout the warmer climates in the United States and Canada.
In 1994, they returned to Gravenhurst where they spent the remainder of their years. Not long after their return, Marcia was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and she was moved to Balmoral and later to Leisureworld.
Frank’s life was devoted to Marcia and his children and in order to provide for them, he worked most of his years as a truck driver. When not on the road he was busy teaching his family the simple things in life. He learned how to cook and was known for his gourmet meals and baking skills. His contribution to family gatherings was usually cherry cheesecake, his absolute favourite. To him, there was nothing better than watching the Blue Jays and enjoying cherry cheesecake.
Marcia was a loving, industrious, family-oriented woman who was dedicated to caring for her family. In addition to being a mom and homemaker she also worked full time at Churchill’s Restaurant where she was a well-known figure. As grandbabies were added to the family, there was no greater delight for Marcia than having the family gather for Sunday dinners with her and Frank in their home.
Frank devoted the remainder of his years to caring for Marcia. He and his little buddy “Brandy” were well known at Leisureworld, Frank for his devotion and sense of humour, and Brandy for his delight at visiting everyone.
With the help of his family, Home Care and the Department of Veterans Affairs, Frank was able to remain in his own home until January of this year. When his health deteriorated, he moved to Leisureworld where he could continue to remain close to Marcia.
After a very brave battle with cancer, Frank died peacefully with his family at his side on April 21, 2008. Eight days later on April 29, 2008, Marcia went to join Frank and died peacefully in her sleep.
And so their love story continues without end.
The Hayes family would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all those people and organizations for their help and contributions to Mom and Dad’s care. You are truly appreciated.
At the request of Frank and Marcia there will be no viewings. A celebration of their lives will be held at the Gravenhurst Legion on Friday, May 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. and everyone is welcome to join us and share your stories.
