The Muskoka Aquatic Club (MUSAC) has returned from the Division 3 team championships with great results.
The meet took place at the Wayne Gretzky Aquatic Club in Brantford on the weekend of April 18.
The Division 3 meet was host to 40 clubs from all over Ontario, with almost 800 swimmers between the ages of seven and 28 competing. Each team was allowed to enter a maximum of 20 swimmers, with the top three teams advancing to Division 2 for the 2009 season.
Out of the 40 teams, MUSAC finished in an impressive third place overall. This is the first time MUSAC will be placed in Division 2 (a larger, more competitive division) in over 10 years.
The MUSAC team was represented by: Emma Barnes (11), Shawn Donaldson (12), Whitney Anne Donaldson (14), Cailagh Evers (17), Sarah Graham (13), Nathan Griffieon (11), Corey Helie-Masters (16), Emily Hubert (9), Melinda Hubert (10), Biata Kerr (13), Veronica Medon (16), Hailey Morris (11), Donald Page (14), Liam Prymak (12), Noah Prymak (13), Sophia Prymak (9), Sontauna Rapsch (15), Kristy Robertson (11), Quinn Scarlett (10), Emily Scott (10) and Megan Vandermolen (11). New club records were set by Veronica Medon in the 15 and over girls 100-m backstroke both short course (25-metre pool) and long course (50-metre pool) with times of 1:04.40 and 1:06.37 respectively. Both times were also fast enough to qualify her for the senior national championships.
A new club record was also set by Noah Prymak in the 13-14 boys 100-m butterfly with a time of 1:05.89 long course.
All swimmers experienced new personal best times and for some, it was a first experience swimming in a long course, 50-metre pool. The weekend was a great success with all of the hard work and dedication paying off, not to mention how much fun everyone had.
