A Toronto man apparently helped himself to pizza, sat on a couch, wrapped himself in a blanket and used a laptop after breaking into a Bracebridge cottage on Sept. 28.
The incident began when, at approximately 10:40 p.m., a married couple returned to their cottage on Caisses Island after an evening out, said Bracebridge OPP Const. Maureen Tilson in a press release.
The couple found a strange personal watercraft tied to the dock and lights on in the cottage that hadn’t been on when they left, said Tilson.
After a closer look, they discovered glass on the window of a door had been broken to allow access to the cottage, Tilson added.
The couple called police and were advised to not enter the building.
Bracebridge OPP officers attended the water-access-only cottage and found a man seated on a couch, wrapped in a blanket and using a laptop computer belonging to the cottage owner, said Tilson.
“It was also learned that the man had helped himself to a pizza while in the cottage,” Tilson said.
The uncooperative man was arrested and taken to Bracebridge OPP, she said.
A short time later, a call came in to police requesting their assistance as the caller had a friend, who several hours ago had taken a personal watercraft without permission from a mutual employer, and hadn’t returned, said Tilson.
The caller feared the man had drowned, she said.
“Police were able to assure the caller that his friend had not become victim to the tides, but was, in fact, safely in the care of the OPP,” Tilson said.
Igor Kresko, 43, of Toronto is charged with break and enter, mischief, driving while under suspension and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
Kresko was to appear in court on Sept. 29 in Bracebridge.
