August 17, 1942 — October 3, 2007

Kathy slipped the physical bonds of this earth and walked into the arms of her Lord on October 3, 2007 at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. She was 65 years old.

Born in St. Catharines, she was the loving daughter of the late Roy and Patricia Killen; sister of Nancy Davies (Bill) of Bracebridge, and the late Don Killen; much loved aunt of Megan Davies-Ostrom (Daniel); great-aunt of Rowan; sister-in-law of Janis Killen.

Kathy spent  most of her childhood in the St. Catharines area, graduating from the Mack School of Nursing in 1965 as a Registered Nurse. She enjoyed working in the pediatrics ward of the St. Catharines General Hospital until ill health forced her to give up her beloved job and ultimately move into her mother’s home in Bracebridge in 1974.

Kathy faced many physical challenges and episodes of ill-health throughout her life, but with advancements in treatment, she impossibly rallied and began working for Homecare in the early 1980s as a visiting nurse, and later as a case manager. She approached her job with quiet determination, dedication and patience, and had a calming influence on co-workers and clients. She retired in 2001 at the age of 60.

Being single and without children of her own, she took great delight in the accomplishments and adventures of her niece Megan, and more recently, her grand-niece Rowan.

Kathy’s sweet nature touched all who knew her; she exhibited no bitterness towards the hand of cards she had been dealt in life. Rather, she focused on what she could accomplish and found joy in the small pleasures of life — her faith, her cat Misty, feeding birds and squirrels, gardening, music, reading, and listening to CBC Radio.

Kathy will be greatly missed by family, co-workers and friends. For such a delicate lady, who walked through life so quietly, you are leaving one very, very big hole in our hearts.

A funeral service was held Saturday, October 13 at Bracebridge United Church with Rev. Kevin Logie officiating. Interment was at the United Church cemetery.
