Your New Year’s resolutions are soon approaching. There is no better time to rejuvenate your health than the start of a new year. The top New Year’s resolutions in 2007 revealed that people wanted to lose weight and get healthier. If you are looking for some simple tips to enhance your health, the following can help.
1. Exercise 30 to 60 minutes three times a week. The healthier you are, the more productive you are. Thirty minutes of light walking is sufficient to reach your daily goal. Exercise improves your mood, controls blood sugar and is good for the heart and bones. Overall, fitness helps reduce the incidence of injury and disease.
2. Stretching is one of the easiest things you can do for your health. It increases your blood flow and helps reduce fatigue. Stretch every couple of hours to help prevent repetitive stress injuries.
3. Make healthy eating a part of your everyday life. This one is not as easy to keep over the holidays, as most of us know from experience. Obesity is one of Canada’s increasingly serious public health issues. Just cutting out one soft drink a day could reduce your weight by five to 10 pounds a year. Start small and work toward big results.
4. Drink eight glasses of water a day. Proper hydration is essential for normal body function. You will feel, act and look better.
5. Evaluate your workspace for improvements. Give your back a break by taking frequent rest breaks to reduce the incidence of injury and fatigue. Warm up prior to any strenuous activity.
6. Evaluate your sleeping conditions. Lack of sleep has dramatic effects on your physical and mental health. Try to maintain a nightly routine of at least seven hours.
7. Reduce stress in all aspects of your life. Physical and mental stress can seriously impact your health. Use exercise as a means to reduce and eliminate your stress. Listen to your body. When it says enough, it probably is. Remember the phrase “All things in moderation.” Too much of anything is usually not healthy. Take time for yourself each day, even if only for a brief time. Find something to be thankful for each and every day.
8. Get a regular checkup. A visit to your chiropractor can help identify the cause of your pain. They will provide you with the proper tools to improve your health and well being. Each year, more than four million Canadians visit a chiropractor. Chiropractic treatment is skilled hands on health care that relieves pain and helps your body be its best.
