DORSET NEWS
Children’s books up for discussion at Book Club

I wanted to include lots of information on how the Dorset Snowball Winter Carnival went and who won the races and games, but due to our new Family Day holiday and holiday deadlines for submitting this column, this exciting news will have to wait until next week.

If you have any interesting Snowball stories to tell, let me know and I’ll be happy to include them. Just give me a call at 766-0076 or e-mail melalfano@hotmail.com.

Here’s an example. Jordyn Nash turned eight  years old on Feb. 14, but is proud to say she has been to nine Snowballs. How? Jordyn attended her first Snowball when she was four days old. Thanks to Doris Nash, Jordyn’s Grandma, for that story.

The next meeting of the Book Club takes place on Wednesday, March 5 and the topic of discussion is: “Share a favourite children’s book, toddler to kindergarten.” The Book Club meets at the library at 1 p.m. and all are welcome. For more information, contact the library at 766-9969 during opening hours, which are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Nothing matters more to most of us than staying healthy. This involves following your doctor’s advice as well as becoming knowledgeable about fitness, nutrition, mind and spirit health, and taking the required actions to promote health and healing. That knowledge can be found at your branch of the Haliburton County Public Library.

Medical guides and encyclopedias, exercise ideas, nutritional information, how to use your mind to achieve optimal mental and physical health, alternative medicine and a variety of books on different diseases are some of the ways the information in your library can help you take control of your health.

Plato said: “The greatest mistake in the treatment of diseases is that there are physicians for the body and physicians for the soul, although the two cannot be separated.” Body and soul are @yourlibrary.

Speaking of body and soul, why not check out yoga and/or tai chi at the recreation centre?

Yoga classes take place Mondays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and tai chi classes are Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Call the recreation centre for more information at 766-9968.

Birthday wishes for Feb. 17 to 23 go out to Lisa and Lindsey Dunn, Chris Clarke, John Keown, Nelly Vitkin, and happy belated birthday to Gino Ballestrin for last week.

To submit an item of interest or a birthday wish, e-mail melalfano@hotmail.com or call 705-766-0076.
