Yesterday my wife and I were at the Subaru dealer in Bracebridge where she picked up the Examiner and found the article written by Rolf Cohrs: A pilgrimage to Teutoburg Forest.
We found it to be extremely interesting to us because we both come from that area. Our oldest son was born in Detmold in 1958, a year before we immigrated to Canada, and we go back for visits almost every year. Actually, we leave on March 13 to go for a visit and we have to make it a point with our relatives that their area is becoming known here. The article goes with us, of course.
The Hermann’s statue is the symbol of the country “Lippe” in Westphalia and well known all over Germany. It was part of our young lives and still is a wonderful place to visit.
Please pass on our thanks to Rolf for this great article and tell him we will have a beer or two there and think of him.
