Two screenings booked in anticipation of large turnout for acclaimed adaptation
Spinning Reels is proud to bring to the Norwood Theatre 3 on March 24 the eagerly awaited film adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s bestselling novel The Kite Runner, from acclaimed director Marc Forster (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland).
The unforgettable story about loyalty and redemption begins in Afghanistan with a young boy named Amir and his best friend — and the son of his servant — Hassan. A kite-flying contest ends in tragedy, setting off a chain of events that changes the lives of both boys.
Amir immigrates to the United States, where he marries and becomes a successful writer. But, unsettled by the events of his childhood, he returns to Afghanistan to rescue Hassan’s son from the Taliban front lines.
In anticipation of a large turnout for this Oscar-nominated film, Spinning Reels volunteers have organized two screenings of The Kite Runner, at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased in advance at Readers’ World. If you’re booking ahead, don’t forget to specify for which screening.
Spinning Reels is a Bracebridge-based non-profit volunteer organization affiliated with the Film Circuit, a division of The Toronto International film Festival Group dedicated to bringing alternative films to smaller communities across Canada and around the world.
Rounding out the schedule for the rest of the season are: the documentary The Bodybuilder and I on April 14, and two Cannes film festival prize winners, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly on April 28, and on May 12, The Band’s Visit.
Mark your calendars, and see you at the movies!
