The non-profit organization Spinning Reels is proud to announce that it was recently able to make cash donations to add to the DVD collections of several local libraries, as well as the Pines Long Term-Care Residence in Bracebridge and Gravenhurst’s Leisureworld.
The donations are in amounts varying from $250 to $1,000, and it was requested by Spinning Reels that the money be used to “enrich the cultural scene here in Muskoka (and bring in) movies that otherwise wouldn’t make it to the big screen in this small a community.”
Since the club was formed in 2002 it has been profitable, but being a non-profit organization, it is necessary for the group to donate the money to the community.
The group is an affiliate of the Film Circuit, which is dedicated to bringing alternative films to smaller communities across Canada and the world.
From September to May one or two movies are brought in per month. Screenings are exclusively at Norwood Cinema 3 in Bracebridge, and tickets are $7. They can be purchased through Readers’ World or e-mail Spinning Reels co-ordinator Tamsen Tillson at tamsen@vianet.ca.
See you at the movies!
