The Muskoka Ring Rats ringette junior club for ages 14 to 16 played their playoff game versus Oshawa on Sunday. Oshawa finished two points ahead of the Muskoka team in the regular season and remained undefeated going into Sunday’s match.
The team played short-handed and early in the last period Dana Commandant left the game with a concussion from hitting the ice awkwardly after being tripped.
The Muskoka girls were down 2-0 after the first period despite some nice scoring chances, some by Commandant. They were down by two more goals around the eight-minute mark of the last period before Morgan Young scored to break the shutout. Assists went to Commandant and Tiana Bol.
The final score was 5-1 for Oshawa so the Muskoka girls finished the season officially in second place.
Two other Muskoka teams made the playoffs this weekend. On Saturday the Muskoka petite minor team won their league championship versus Markham by a score of 7-6. In another game, the tween team, ages 12-13, lost their championship match versus Sunderland by a score of 12-1.
The final action for all four teams will be in the regional tournament on the weekend of April 11-13.
