Gravenhurst projecting 7.2 per cent tax increase

The Town of Gravenhurst’s 2008 budget is only days from being approved by town council and at this point projects a 7.2 per cent increase in the municipal portion of ratepayers’ tax bill.

The impact on a residential property in Gravenhurst assessed at $100,000 is an additional $22.47 per year. The total Gravenhurst tax bill will be $333.04 based on a $100,000 home. The tax increase was incorrectly stated in the Gravenhurst Weekender on April 4.

District: Muskoka district council will adopt the 2008 tax-supported operational and capital budgets on Monday, but tentatively approved a 4 per cent increase on March 31.

The impact on a residential property assessed at $100,000 is an additional $12.51 per year. The District portion of the tax bill will be $324.63 based on a $100,000 home.

This does not include water and sewer fees for urban residents.

Education: While municipalities are waiting for confirmation from the Province of Ontario, the 2008 provincial budget suggest the education tax rate for residential properties will remain the same.
