The Port Carling Thunder peewees had a strong finish in their last key games of the 2007-08 season.
In Muskoka-Parry Sound League B playoffs, the Thunder defeated the Almaguin Devils on April 1 to become league champions. The team also put in a championship performance at an end-of-season tournament in St. George on April 5 and 6.
During the first tournament game against Coldwater, the Thunder played some of their best hockey of the season. Exceptional passing plays resulted in a 5-2 win for Port Carling.
Game two saw an 8-4 Thunder victory and AP goalie Nathan Antonides took the third period between the pipes.
The championship game was against the host team, the St. George Generals late on Sunday. In spite of many great saves by Thunder’s Peter Johnston, Port Carling was only able to find the net twice against St. George’s five goals. Kurtis Gammon was named Most Valuable Player for the Thunder in the final game.
Thanks for a great season to the coaching staff: Keith Gammon, head coach; Ralph Uhde, assistant coach; Guy Burry, trainer; Brad Johnston, manager; and auxiliary reps Brad Antonides and Aaron Webb. Families are very proud of this team’s accomplishments.
