December 11, 1911 – April 3, 2008
Gladys Pearl Cudmore passed away at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge on April 3, 2008. She was in her 97th year.
Gladys was the beloved wife of the late Earl Lewis Cudmore and dear mother of Arla Borneman of Toronto and Erla Cudmore of Gravenhurst. She was predeceased by her brother Dalt and her sister Rita. She is survived by her sister-in-law Edith Morton of Bracebridge. She was the beloved grandmother to Terry, Michael, Stephen and Lynn of Toronto.
Born on Dec. 11, 1911 in Bracebridge, Gladys was the daughter of Arthur and Catherine Moon. Her father was the caretaker of the old Bracebridge High School for many years.
Gladys attended school in Bracebridge and worked on the main street in the Elliott store. When she married she moved to Gravenhurst. She attended the Presbyterian Church, joined the choir and was for many years secretary of the Ladies Aid. She loved to prepare for the church bake and rummage sales, as well as help with the special dinners and lunches. She took part in a minstrel show held at the Opera House where she sang a solo, The Rose of Tralee.
Gladys was a homemaker all of her married life. She enjoyed hockey and lacrosse games, swimming, painting, playing the piano, picking berries, knitting, crocheting, hearing about her grandchildren’s activities, and watching talk shows such as Larry King, Michael Coren and Mary Ito. She would spend many hours doing word searches in her puzzle book.
Working outside in her yard, raking, shovelling snow, mowing the lawn and gardening brought her much pleasure.
The funeral was held at Cavill Funeral Home in Gravenhurst on April 7, 2008. Dr. Jim Sitler was the officiating Presbyterian Church minister. Honorary pallbearers included grandchildren Terry, Lynn, Michael and Stephen Borneman, son-in-law Vince Torreson and friend Sorin Costicov.
