(Editor’s note: This letter is addressed to Bill Woods, District Chief, Station 7 (Windermere/Raymond) Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, and printed here with permission.)
Dear Bill:
On behalf of council I want to thank the firefighters of Station 7 for their efforts in minimizing damage to Wilson’s Lodge during last Sunday’s fire.
Your quick response and ability to conduct firefighting operations in a professional and operationally effective manner is a credit to the department. I understand two firefighters also attended their scheduled training course later that day, somewhat tired from their earlier duties, but obviously eager to continue their prescribed training.
We also extend our thanks to the spouses of the firefighters, who brought coffee and snacks for the firefighters last Sunday, and to Station 9 Milford Bay and Station 6 Port Carling for their assistance.
In light of the recent resignations it is gratifying to know that the complement is capable, effective and strong — that’s a positive message that has been overlooked of late.
We are encouraged to know that experienced firefighters have returned to Station 7 and new recruits have joined. I understand the roster for Station 7 is now standing at 17 and all meet the minimum first aid standard as prescribed by the Ontario Fire Marshal, with 45 per cent of those meeting the advanced medical first responder standard. We thank you all for your commitment to the profession.
I am sure I speak for many when I say the firefighters of Station 7 deserve our gratitude for continuing to do what you do so well.
Susan Pryke
