Creative Landscaping of Bracebridge was awarded the lawn maintenance contract for Bracebridge Sportsplex and Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School (BMLSS) at the April 8 culture and recreation committee meeting.

The contract is for a three-year period, with the rates increasing each September according to the Ontario consumer price index.

Three companies bid on the project: Creative Landscaping, JAC Property Management and Gordon Medley & Sons, Ltd., Landscape Contractors.

Facility manager Don Campbell commented there was a considerable difference in the bids. For instance, Creative Landscaping quoted a price of $129.60 for lawn cutting at the Sportsplex, while JAC quoted $861.12 and Gordon Medley & Sons, $405. For aeration at BMLSS, Creative Landscaping quoted $256, JAC quoted $266 and Medley $1,440.

β€œI spoke with the owner of Creative Landscaping to see if he understood the scope of the work,” said Campbell. β€œHe said he did and was surprised at the amount quoted by the others.”

The budget for lawn maintenance at the sportsplex is included in the contractor budget, which is $27,000.
