Let's avoid the use of pesticides altogether
Apr 24, 2008

This letter is in regards to the article printed in the April 16 paper titled, “Herbicide use unnecessary: watershed council.”

Thank you to the watershed council for postponing our consumption of yet another harmful chemical.

I do not know about you, but Judi Brouse’s comment concerned me. “If you’re going to use a pesticide, glyphosate is likely not too bad.”

Nothing can justify the risk pesticides pose to human health. Monsanto Corporation, which produces Roundup, does not seem to take our health into consideration with its profits in mind. It certainly did not seem to think about anyone’s health when it produced Agent Orange and PCBs, among many other chemicals that have been known to be cancer-causing agents.

Next time you are going to use pesticide on your lawn, think about the risk it poses to your health, your neighbours’ health and the health of the future. Once pesticides are in our water source, what are we going to do? Use more chemicals to remove them? Why not avoid them altogether.
