Sharp instruments, tobacco, brew parts found at Fenbrook
Fenbrook Institution is back to normal operations after an exceptional search recovered contraband from various areas of the institution, including a large reserve of tobacco, sharp instruments and brew-making still parts.

A press release from the prison said the search of the facility concluded on Sunday and the warden ordered the resumption of a modified operation at the institution on Monday, while visits remained suspended. By Tuesday, the facility was back to normal operations.

Inmates at Fenbrook were placed under lockdown status on April 22, after information was received indicating there was contraband within the institution that may be linked to a previous search in March.

Annette Allen, assistant warden management services, said it’s difficult to calculate the number of hours spent searching the facility. The search started Tuesday around noon and continued through each day until about 9 p.m., but not through the night.

She said staff continued the search as best as they could during a power interruption Thursday evening.

When asked about allegations of bullets and a zip gun hidden inside the facility, Allen said nothing to that effect was found.

On Sunday, Fenbrook Institution concluded the exceptional search of the facility. The institution remained in lockdown status while an assessment of risk was conducted and a plan to return to normal operation developed, said the press release.

The search was managed internally by staff with the assistance of extra correctional officers.
