DEMOLISHED. An Ontario Provincial Police traffic investigator takes notes during an investigation into a stolen pickup truck that was demolished after it rolled into a treed area while attempting to turn onto Cedar Lane from Taylor Road Saturday morning in Bracebridge.

Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police ended up arresting five youths from the Hamilton and Stratford areas Saturday morning, after the truck the youths were driving, which OPP say was stolen, crashed into the woods during a police pursuit.

While responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked off Hwy. 118 in Bracebridge, an OPP officer spotted the vehicle, a 1992 GMC pickup, turning onto Hwy. 11 North from Hwy. 118. Police say the truck was stolen from Mitchell, Ontario, and when officers attempted to stop the vehicle after it turned off Hwy. 11 North onto Taylor Road, police report the driver accelerated. A short pursuit ended when the vehicle rolled into a treed area and was demolished, while attempting to turn onto Cedar Lane.

Police arrested all five occupants of the truck at the scene. Four of them were taken to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. They were treated for minor injuries and released.

A search of the pickup allegedly turned up a quantity of marijuana and several bottles of liquor. Police report that a 17-year-old male passenger falsely identified himself to officers.

Bracebridge OPP have charged the 17-year-old male driver from Hamilton with possession of stolen property over $5,000, flight from police, dangerous driving and possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking. A 17-year-old male passenger from Georgetown was charged with obstructing police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking. A 15-year-old female passenger from Stoney Creek was charged with possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking, and another 15-year-old female passenger from Mitchell was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. No charges were laid against a third female passenger from Stoney Creek.

Police are continuing the investigation.
